Silverpoint Workshop
Saturday November 21st
10am - 4pm
Shottery Memorial Hall Art Studio
This workshop is for members only.
You can become a member and purchase courses in our store.
Silverpoint is a traditional drawing technique using a silver stylus on a prepared surface, known for its fine, precise lines and historical significance in Renaissance art.
In this workshop, you will learn how to draw in Silverpoint, a beautiful method and seen in the drawings of Leonardo, Raphael, Durer and many others. During our day together you will learn about the choices and preparation of your paper, mark making in silver, spend time experimenting with the method and considering how you can take it forward.
Due to this being a practical workshop, there will only be time for a very brief outline of the place of silver and metal-point in the history of art.
The workshop is designed for all drawing abilities, from beginners to advanced artists. Resources will be provided to allow everyone to focus on the drawing method at their own level.
Silverpoint can be used to draw any subject, including portraits, still life, animals, botanicals, and landscapes. You are free to choose your own subject or use the suggestions provided.
All resources required will be provided including a Silverpoint pencil which you can keep to continue to develop your skills.
