Pen & Wash Workshop with Richard Crabtree 🎨

We’re delighted to welcome Richard Crabtree, a professional artist and experienced tutor, for a practical and inspiring Pen and Wash workshop exploring landscape and wildlife subjects.

In this workshop, Richard will guide you through:

  • Different materials, styles, and approaches available to artists
  • How pen and wash can be used to sketch, explore, and understand a subject
  • Achieving a range of effects using different pens, inks, and watercolour techniques

Richard will demonstrate his own working process, showing how he uses pen and wash to quickly familiarise himself with a subject before developing a finished piece. You’ll gain practical insights that you can adapt to your own style, whatever medium you usually work in.

Who is it for?

The workshop is open to all abilities. Some basic drawing experience would be helpful, but enthusiasm and curiosity are far more important than confidence. This is an excellent opportunity to loosen up, experiment, and learn from a professional artist in a supportive setting.

About the Artist

Richard Crabtree has lived and worked in Worcestershire for many years. After studying at Bournville College of Art, he spent time in the commercial graphic design industry before becoming a full-time professional artist and tutor in 2004.

He now teaches regular weekly classes, works privately with students, and demonstrates to art societies across the country. Although he teaches a wide range of subjects and media, his passion lies in wildlife and landscape art, working mainly in watercolour and oils.

Richard is a member of:

  • Birmingham Watercolour Society
  • The SAA
  • TWASI (The Wildlife Art Society International)

Through his work, he aims to promote awareness of the beauty and fragility of the natural world and the importance of conservation.
