The Society organises a couple of 'studio time' sessions, where members come together to meet, create, share inspiration and help each other. There are also classes run by some of our members - some of which can be purchased through our store and others that are joined by contacting the artist directly.

Social Studio Time

The society runs two regular studio sessions where members can come along to create their art amongst fellow members. Only the Friday session has a tutor, Keith Billingham, but both groups have some experienced artists who are willing to share their knowledge.

Lizzie Bentley - New Now Run by The Society

To sign up for the SUmmer Term See our Store.

Lizzie Bentley’s Still Life Painting from Observation Class is 9am to 12 midday on Friday Mornings at Shottery Memorial Hall.

In Lizzie’s Still Life Painting from Observation class, Lizzie encourages you to paint from life. As you enter her class, you will find 3 or 4 still life set-ups to paint from (lemons, pears, dried flowers, silk flowers, various objects). These still life set-ups will be repeated for 3 weeks to enable each artist a sustained period to finish their work.

Lizzie is an Oil Painter who, after leaving Oxford University with a degree in Fine Art, went on to study at Heatherley’s school of Art in London and also at the Princes Drawing School. At both schools she was able to continue to learn how to draw and paint from various Slade Trained Art Professors.

Lizzie also spent a year at The Kew Steam Museum in London, studying Painting Practice with Jason Bowyer (neac).

Lizzie is a professional artist and paints on the days she doesn’t teach.

  • What Does Sarah Do?

The sessions comprise of a demonstration

which lasts 20 to 30 minutes which follow a theme for the term. The next four sessions are focussed on getting looser with our painting. Sarah is currently demonstrating in acrylics, but there are students using oils and watercolours too. All mediums are welcome.

Sarah and her class have explored many subjects and mediums, including: Perspective, Colour Theory, Tonal Values, Texture Palette Knife Work, Landscapes, Life Drawing, Still Life, Portraits, Animals, Figures, Charcoal, Oils, Watercolours, and Acrylics. These subjects come around again, and fundamentals like Colour Theory and Tonal Values, get touched on most lessons!

After Loose Acrylics, Sarah is also working on lessons for how to create more accurate/ realistic art (probably mainly inspired by animals); experimenting with other medias and texture in our work; and Sarah has been asked for more on Colour theory - so that will be coming around again.

After each session, Sarah also emails out notes and video tutorials based on the session and what came up. Great if you need a recap or if you missed a session.

wayne attwood

Wayne Attwood has two classes at Shottery Studio Above the Memorial Hall, Hathaway Lane, Stratford upon Avon CV37 9BL

  • Life Class

    Monday 10am-12  or   12.30pm to 2.30pm

The life class will consist of drawing or painting from the nude model, who will pose for 2hrs (with breaks). We will usually take a tea break at about 1.15pm for 15min. The poses will vary - some weeks, we will do more shorter poses, usually at the start of a term, and also one single session poses. This will depend on the dynamics of the group and is quite democratic. All media is acceptable and down to the individual. Tuition is in a ‘mentoring’ style, and Wayne will work with you on your individual development throughout the sessions rather than set group exercises. All abilities/experiences welcome.

  • Painting Class/Mentoring

    Mondays 3.00pm to 5.00pm

Tuition is in a ‘mentoring’ style, and Wayne will work with you on your individual development throughout the sessions. After an initial appraisal of your preferred direction, development can be achieved either by us working on the projects that you are welcome to bring along or by setting you specific technical exercises to strengthen specific skills as required. Throughout the term, Wayne will also discuss specific topics and give demos as appropriate. Wayne will be happy to give constructive appraisal/ critique on any piece of your work, as well as any other development advice. All painting media and abilities are welcome.

To book a place in either class, please contact Wayne Attwood PPRBSA on info@wayneattwood.com or call 07966 688116
